About this event

In Honduras in September 2019, the ‘Guapinol 8’ were detained for peacefully resisting the exploitation of their community’s natural resources by private business interests. A mining company had turned their river to mud. Almost two years later, they remain in pretrial detention.

Join Trócaire to hear the latest on the community's campaign for justice and to explore how the case highlights the ways that the state, the courts and big business often work together to criminalise, intimidate and stop the work of environmental and human rights defenders. Organised by Trócaire.

In Hondúras i mí Mheán Fómhair 2019, coinníodh na ‘Guapinol 8’ as cur go síochanta i gcoinne gnóthaí príobháideacha ag dúshaothrú acmhainní nádúrtha a bpobail. D’iompaigh comhlacht mianadóireachta a n-abhainn ina láib. Tá siad á gcoinneáil réamhthrialach go fóill, beagnach dhá bhliain níos moille.

Bí le Trócaire le héisteacht leis an scéal is déanaí faoi fheachtas an phobail le haghaidh ceartais agus leis an dóigh a ndíríonn sé aird ar na bealaí a oibríonn an stát agus na gnóthaí móra le chéile go minic le coir a dhéanamh as, imeaglú a chur ar, agus stop a chur le hobair na gcosantóirí timpeallachta agus um chearta an duine.
