About this event

On the 11th May 2021 Justice Siobhan Keegan found that 10 people shot dead by British soldiers in Ballymurphy in August 1971 were ‘entirely innocent’ after 50 years of campaigning by their families.

Pádraig Ó Muirigh, the lawyer for the Ballymurphy Massacre families, will give a lecture on the recent landmark Ballymurphy Inquest findings. He will explore the legal journey from the successful application to the Attorney General in 2011 requesting a fresh inquest which led to the longest-running inquest in the history of the north of Ireland.

He will also provide an insight into his legal team and their strategies during the inquest and explore the wider significance of Justice Keegan’s findings.

Supported by Féile an Phobail’s Debates and Discussion Programme.

Ar 11 Bealtaine 2021, i ndiaidh do na teaghlaigh 50 bliain a chaitheamh i mbun feachtasaíochta, bhreith an Breitheamh Siobhan Keegan go raibh na 10 nduine a mharaigh saighdiúirí Briotanacha i mBaile Uí Mhurchú i mí Lúnasa 1971 ‘go hiomlán neamhchiontach’.

Tabharfaidh Pádraig Ó Muirigh, an dlíodóir ar son theaghlaigh Ár Bhaile Uí Mhurchú, léacht ar thorthaí cinniúnacha déanacha Fhiosrúchán Bhaile Uí Mhurchú. Pléifidh sé an turas dlíthiúil ón iarratas rathúil a cuireadh chuig an Ard-Aighne in 2011 ag iarraidh fiosrúchán úr ar chúis leis an fhiosrúchán ab’fhaide é i stair thuaisceart na hÉireann.

Tabharfaidh sé léargas ar an fhoireann dhlíthiúil agus ar a straitéisí le linn an fhiosrúcháin agus scrúdóidh sé tábhacht níos forleithne chinneadh an Bhreithimh Keegan. Tacaithe ag Clár Plé agus Díospóireachtaí Féile an Phobail.
